What is Composting?

• Composting is a process that turns garbage into
  usable soil-like material.

How Does It Work?

• Tiny living things called microorganisms do most
  of the work.
• -Fungi and bacteria are microorganisms.
• They break down organic materials.

What Can Be Composted?

• Items you normally throw into your garbage can be
  composted.
• Things such as
• leaves
• grass clippings
• fruits
• veggies
• CAN BE COMPOSTED!

What Else Can Be Composted?

• Coffee grounds and filters
• Tea bags

Why Should We Compost?

• Yard waste and food scraps make up 20 to 30 of
  garbage!!!
• Landfills are filling up quickly.
• By adding compost to your soil, you help the
  earth!

Where Do We Start?

• Tell your parents about our composting project.
• In a reusable container, bring in kitchen and
  small yard items to compost.
• We will combine our items in the composting bin
  with other students items and turn the bins
  daily.

In a Few Weeks

• We will have compost!!!
• Yay!
