What is an Ecozone?
  • Using ecozones to study the land helps us to
    understand the interconnections among natural
    human systems.
  • Canada has 15 ecozones
  • - divided into 47 eco-provinces
  • - further subdivided into 177 eco-regions
  • - broken into 5395 eco-districts
  • There are also 5 marine ecozones around Canada

Why Study Ecozones?
  • Ecozones are useful for studying the land. They
  • help us understand
  • the interconnections among natural and human
    systems
  • see humans as an essential part of the Earths
    ecosystem, rather than separate from it
  • they are based on the combination of several
    characteristics landforms, climate, soil,
    vegetation, wildlife patterns of human activity
