Title: Instructions for this activity
1Instructions for this activity
- This activity can be done with one or more
students that may or may not have difficulty
identifying the sounds in words. - Show the student(s) the slides. Have them guess
the missing word and identify the missing vowel
sounds aloud. They can work in pairs and write
the team response on a white board. - Take time to model correct speech especially if
you notice a child is having difficulty. - Use the primary sources as conversation pieces to
get the students to use the word orally in
sentence form. - Have them say and answer the questions at the
bottom of the slide. If a child has major
difficulty reading the teacher may have to model
it for them. - Print the photos and have students sort them into
2 categories (long and short vowels). - Print the words for more advanced readers to
sort. - Continue through the slide show repeating the
steps above. - Each image is hyperlinked to the LOCs
bibliographic page. Here you can find more
information about each image. - Additional presentations could be created for
other vowel or consonant sounds. This version
was modeled after Jeanne Seabridges lesson.
