• May Castro passes Agrarian Reform Law which took
  land from U.S.
• U.S. was not compensated fairly for land

• February Castro makes trade agreement with
  U.S.S.R.
• April U.S. responds by refusing to refine oil
  for Cuba that came from the U.S.S.R.
• July Eisenhower cancels sugar quota(Will not buy
  Cuban sugar)

• August-October Castro nationalizes all U.S.
  companies (utilities, banking, transportation,
  communications, sugar refining insurance,
  industrial, mining, and tourism)

1960

• Oct. 19, 1960 The U.S. initiates a nearly
  complete embargo. No more trading, except for
  medicine and non-subsidized food stuffs.

1961

• April 17, 1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion
• After the Bay of Pigs the embargo will be
  complete.
• No trading relationship at all b/w Cuba and the
  U.S.
• Still in effect today!
