  • A110 uses the web-based Oncourse Course
    Management System
  • Log in to Oncourse
  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Navigate to http//oncourse.iu.edu/
  • Log in and click on our lab section

Creating Accounts
  • This course requires that you have a steel
    account.
  • In IE (Internet Explorer) go to
    http//itaccounts.iu.edu. Follow the instructions
    to set up both accounts.
  • If there is a problem with your password you may
    need to reset your password at https//password.iu
    .edu

Using a Web Server (steel)
  • Run the Secure Shell application (SSH)
  • Connect to steel.ucs.indiana.edu
  • At home you can download SSH from
    iuware.indiana.edu
  • Once you have logged in, type spinweb at the
    prompt and press enter. This sets up your account
    for making web pages.

File Management (WinXP)
  • File Cabinet metaphor files are arranged in a
    collection of folders
  • Folders can contain other folders
  • Organizing folders allows you to find your work
    later on

Local vs. Network
  • Local refers to storage on the hard drive of
    the computer youre working on
  • This allows quick access and is how you would
    work on a home or office computer
  • Unfortunately, files in the labs are regularly
    wiped clean
  • Network storage is located at a separate
    location (e.g. CFS)
  • Provides safety and backups for important files

Set up WebDav
  • Login to Oncourse
  • Put a folder in either your drop box or your
    Workspace
  • Go to your Network Connections and setup a
    Network connection to your Sakai resources folder
  • Use the Browser to practice moving and copying
    files

  • Create an A110 folder
  • Create five subfolders in A110
  • HTML
  • Word
  • Excel
  • Access
  • Service

Uploading files to steel
  • Open Notepad and create an example file. Save it
    as test.html
  • Open the SFTP application
  • Upload test.html into the www directory
  • Run spinweb again (using SSH)
  • http//mypage.iu.edu/username/test.html
