PRESSURES/RISKS PRESSURES/RISKS
Nutrient sources Most TP is diffuse (82) mainly from agriculture (71), unsewered properties (10) and WWTP (14).
Point pressures 16 WWTPs Annestown, Ballinroad, Dungarvan, Dunhill W, Kill, Kilmacthomas, Lemybrien, Moanfune, Stradbally, Ardmore, Ring/Helvick/Ball, Tramore, Bonmahon, Dunmore East, Passage East, Crooke 12 Section 4s Livestock Marketer, 6 Private Companies, Rural Development Company, Holiday Cottages/Restaurant, Housing Association, Public House, Hotel. 4 IPPC Engineering, Joinery Company, 2 Private Companies. 4 Surface WTP - Dunmore East, Ballylaneen, Ballyvadden, and Stradbally WTPs.
Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) and Industrial Discharges At risk Ballinroad WWTP - Proposed decommissioning of existing WWTP into Dungarvan Scheme. Dunhill WWTP - No risks Kilmacthomas WWTP Lemybrien WWTP - No risks Stradbally WWTP Section 4s - No risks identified.
Quarries, Mines Landfills There are 7 Quarries. There are two landfills within the WMU, at Tramore and Dungarvan. Both are now closed. There are no mines within the WMU.
Agriculture There are 25 waterbodies at risk from agriculture within the WMU SE_17_22, SE_17_834, SE_17_823, SE_17_47, SE_17_276, SE_17_303, SE_17_151, SE_17_292, SE_17_294, SE_17_439, SE_17_138, SE_17_532, SE_17_547, SE_17_564, SE_17_305, SE_17_566, SE_17_650, SE_17_665, SE_17_642, SE_17_586, SE_17_726, SE_17_787, SE_17_284, SE_17_825, SE_17_647
On-site systems There are 6466 septic tanks in this WMU, none of them are posing a risk to water quality due to their density, location and unsuitable hydrogeological conditions.
Forestry There is one waterbody at risk from forestry within the WMU SE_17_834.
Dangerous substances There are no waterbodies at risk from dangerous substances within the WMU.
Morphology There is one waterbody at risk from morphology (channelisation) within the WMU SE_17_22 - River Brickey Arterial Drainage Scheme
Abstractions There are 4 waterbodies at risk from abstraction within the WMU SE_17_284, SE_17_825, SE_17_303 and SE_17_305.
Other Dunmore East Sewerage Scheme proposed. Dungarvan Ardmore, Ring/Helvick and Kilmacthomas have all been identified for Water Supply Schemes.
STATUS/IMPACTS STATUS/IMPACTS
Overall status 41 RWB - 4 high, 23 good, 12 moderate, 2 poor. There are 2 lake water bodies in this WMU Ballinlough is good status and extrapolated, Belle Lake is moderate status and monitored. 3 Transitional WBs Brickey Estuary, Colligan Estuary and Mahon Estuary. 5 Coastal WBs border WMU Waterford Harbour , Dungarvan Harbour, Eastern Celtic Sea, Tramore Bay, Tramore Back Strand Refer to Transitional and Coastal Action Plan for SERBD.
Status elements Q score dictates overall status for river WBs that are less than good. Phys Chemical fails in 1 moderate WB. Chemical Status is monitored in 2 water bodies (Colligan and Mahon main channels) and passes. Status for 24 WBs is extrapolated (13 good, 10 moderate,1 high). Belle Lake status is dictated by Chlorophyll, Nutrients - Total Phosphorus.
Possible Impacts - EPA Water Quality 2004 BRICKEY - (SE_17_834, Status 2009 - Good based on PhysChem not Q score) Reversion to moderately polluted conditions following transitory amelioration in 2004 at the only location examined (Knockmahon Bridge). (Q score 3-4) COLLIGAN - (SE_17_832, Status 2009 - Good) Continuing satisfactory throughout. (Based on Q score 4-5) DALLIGAN - (SE_17_662, Status 2009 - Good based on PhysChem not Q score) Continuing satisfactory throughout. (Q score 4-5) DUNHILL - (SE_17_647, Status 2009 - Moderate) Continuing slightly polluted at Ballyphilip Bridge (0100). Also known as Annestown Stream. (Based on Q score 3-4) LEPERSTOWN STREAM - (SE_17_284, Status 2009 - Poor) Continuing moderately polluted at Bridge West of Leperstown (Aughanodrish Bridge). (Based on Q score 3) MAHON - (SE_17_825, Status 2009 - Moderate) Satisfactory except downstream of Kilmacthomas (0200) where again slightly polluted. (Based on Q score 3-4) MORRAGEN - (SE_17_564 and SE_17_566, Status 2009 - Moderate and Good respectively) Amelioration to satisfactory conditions in 2007. In 2004 this location. (Kilnagrange Bridge) was less than satisfactory for the first time since biological sampling began 1987. (Based on Q score 3-4)

SELECTED ACTION PROGRAMME NB All relevant basic measures, general supplementary measures and SEA mitigation measures apply SELECTED ACTION PROGRAMME NB All relevant basic measures, general supplementary measures and SEA mitigation measures apply
Point Sources See Point Source Discharge Table for WWTP at risk to the right. Also Lemybrien WWTP - Upgrade may be required to allow for future capacity. INDUSTRY Examine the terms of all discharge authorisations to determine whether they require review for the purpose of compliance with water body objectives including protected area objectives and environmental quality standards.
Diffuse Sources AGRICULTURE Good Agricultural Practice Regulations and Enforcement.
Other FORESTRY - Measures to address acidification apply to SE_17_834. MORPHOLOGY - SE_17_22 will require investigation to determine impact of channelisation. OTHER Protection of drinking water, abstraction control and future licensing. Shellfish Pollution Reduction Programmes under the shellfish directive
FUTURE DEVELOPMENT FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
Future Pressures and Developments Throughout the river basin management cycle future pressures and developments will need to be managed to ensure compliance with the objectives of the Water Framework Directive and the Programme of Measures will need to be developed to ensure issues associated with these new pressures are addressed.
OBJECTIVES OBJECTIVES
Restore/Protect 2015 37 River water bodies and 2 lake water bodies
Alternative Objectives Extended Deadlines 4 river water bodies with 2021 deadline New Modifications or Development none requiring alternative objectives at present. HMWB/AWB - none
