• Germany is forced by the Treaty of Versailles to
  adopt a new govt. A Democracy known as the
  Weimar Republic
• It is an absolute failure, their economy is
  crippled, and German citizens hate this new
  govt. They demand one person to be in charge
  once again

• Italy, Japan and Germany begin to shift towards
• Totalitarian Dictatorship One political party
  has control of the govt and bans other parties
• Fascism Philosophy that places the importance of
  the nation above everything, even individual
  rights

• The rest of the world begins to change
• Japan Doubles population, and puts its trust in
  the military
• Germany Nazi party comes to rule, Adolf Hitler
  to power, and military is rebuilt
• Italy Benito Mussolini comes to power promoting
  Fascism

• Hitler blames the Treaty of Versailles for
  Germanys problems and starts to violate the terms
  with no consequences from the League of Nations
  in the 1930s. How does he get away with this?
• Appeasement Agree to demands of an enemy to
  avoid war
• Britain and France are afraid of another war so
  they continue to appease Hitler!

• President FDR feels that he must help our allies
  so he passes three acts
• Cash-n-Carry Act
• Destroyers for Bases Deal
• Lend Lease Act

• Sept. 1st 1939 Germany invades Poland starting
  World War II
• U.S. declares neutrality

• The U.S. continues to watch what is happening in
  Europe and in the Pacific
• Japan invades Manchuria China and then expands
  across the Pacific until it reaches Hawaii in
  late 1941.
