Who will be there
  • 2 to 3 examiners lecturers from SOCE. You will
    know the names of these people when you go in.
  • Your supervisor but not allowed to speak!
  • The Chair of the Viva to make sure things go to
    plan

Your examiners want you to do well but they will
give you a hard time the viva will be rigorous

What are examiners looking for?
  • Is it your own work?
  • What have you done?
  • Why have you done it?
  • How did you do it?
  • What have you found?
  • What are the implications of these?
  • Do you understand what you did?

Preparation before submission
  • get your rationale of your project absolutely
    correct, and clear in your mind by the time of
    the viva
  • explain/justify any statement in the report, and
    identify any contentious statements
  • start a file of anticipated viva questions
  • know your own project thoroughly - it's a great
    idea to compile a brief summary of each section

  • keep the subject alive in your head
  • anticipate the questions you'll be asked in your
    viva
  • the main preparation for the viva is reading
  • Know your report inside-out
