3What is Flash Foil?
Flash Foil is a National Solution for Frame
Wall Foam Insulation
- Fi-Foils new Flash Foil Frame Wall Insulation
is an improved insulation solution designed to
save you money. This solution has advantages to
Flash and Batt systems. - Combine Fi-Foils VR Plus Shield Reflective
Insulation with spray foam insulation to reduce
costs and provide code-compliant R-Values in any
frame wall construction. - Drop the Batt - Flash Foil!
4Why replace fiberglass batt with Fi-Foils
VR Plus Shield Reflective Insulation?
- Code Compliant Wall R-ValuesR-values for Flash
Foil in 2 x 4 inch wall range from R-11 to R-19,
based on the foam manufacturers R per inch and
the thickness of the foam. A complete table of
R-Values determined by the thickness and type of
spray foam to follow on separate slide (Table 1). - Less Cost typical savings of 25 versus
fiberglass batts. - Stops Radiationas a reflective insulation, VR
Plus Shields multiple layers separate to create
three reflective air spaces to virtually
eliminate heat transfer. - Less Storage Space500 square foot rolls are easy
to store and transport. - Vapor Retarderavailable in Hi-Perm (perforated
version) that allows vapor transmission and in
Standard (non-perforated version) that functions
as a vapor retarder, if required by code. - Green Building Materialcontributes to Green
Building Certification credits for Energy
Efficiency.
5Offered in 16 and 24 width rolls with tape tab
for installing over Metal Framing or with staple
tab for Wood Framing.
VR Plus has a Class A Flammability Rating
Also available in Hi-Perm (perforated version) to
allow vapor transmission or in Standard
(non-perforated version) to perform as a vapor
retarder.
6How does Flash Foil work?
- Step 1 Spray the desired thickness of foam
- insulation on the inside of the frame wall
- which seals the joints and provides thermal
- protection by reducing air infiltration and
- adding thermal resistance. Instead of 3-1/2
- or 5-1/2 of spray foam in a 2 x 4 inch or
- 2 x 6 inch cavity respectively, a thinner layer
- of foam (flash) is used to air seal the cavity.
- Step 2 Apply VR Plus Shield reflective
- insulation (foil) to the face of the studs. The
- three layers of VR Plus Shield expand to
- form reflective air spaces in the remaining
- portion of the 2 x 4 inch or 2 x 6 inch cavity.
- REQUIRES 1-1/2 INCH AIR SPACE FOR
- VR PLUS TO EXPAND INNER LAYERS
7How are R-Values calculated for Nominal 2 x 4
inch and 2 x 6 inch Wood Frame Wall Cavities
insulated with VR Plus Shield and Spray-applied
Cellular Foam Plastic Insulation?
The thermal resistance (R-values) for
combinations of Fi-Foil VR Plus Shield Reflective
Insulation and spray-applied cellular foam
plastic insulation have been calculated using a
procedure published in ASTM STP 1116.
