  • This is an infinitive verb. In English we
    usually say to like, but think of it as to be
    pleasing to to make more sense in Spanish.

Indirect Object Pronouns (IOPs)
  • These are used with the verb gustar.
  • They go in front of the conjugated verb gusta and
    tell us to whom something is pleasing.
  • me (to me) nos (to us)
  • te (to you) os (to you all)-Spain only
  • le (to him, to her, to you) les (to them, to
    you all)

English, wed say I like ______.

Is dancing pleasing to you? Do you like to

Answer, Yes, dancing is pleasing to me / I like

  • Thats right, only the Indirect Object Pronoun!
  • Why you ask? Because dancing is pleasing is

If you want to say you DONT like something,
something is NOT pleasing
  • Put no before the IOP.
  • Dancing is not pleasing to me.
  • No me gusta bailar.
  • Dancing is not pleasing to you.
  • No te gusta bailar.

So to re-cap
  • IOP in front
  • followed by gusta
  • then the verb that is pleasing to someone
  • If its not pleasing, put no before the IOP
  • Affirmative (IOP) gusta (verb).
  • Negative No (IOP) gusta (verb).

If you want to say a certain person likes/doesnt
like to do something, use their name after a
personal a at the beginning of the sentence.
  • Rebecca likes to sing.
  • A Rebecca le gusta cantar.
  • Jorge and Juan dont like to study.
  • A Jorge y a Juan no les gusta estudiar.
