Blackfeet Information
  • Headquarters for the tribe are located in
    Browning, Montana.
  • Descendants from tribes known as the Blackfeet,
    Bloods and Piegans.
  • Their language comes from the Algonquin line.
  • Blackfeet name comes from the black color of the
    bottom of their moccasins.
  • Tribal members work in agriculture, timber,
    tourism and construction industries.

Little Shell

  • They have been in Montana for 100 years
  • 2000 preliminary recognition was given to the
    tribe.

The Little Shell is a landless tribal group. They
live in Great Falls, Havre, Lewistown, Helena,
Butte, Chinook, Hays, Wolf Point, Hamilton and
Billings.

  • 1st Indians in Central Montana
  • Little Shell and his people were not included in
    the Turtle Mountain rolls
  • Moved to Montana to hunt buffalo
  • Tribe is recognized by the state of Montana, but
    not yet recognized as an official tribe by the
    U.S. government.
