Ring Worm

  • Ring worm comes from the Latin word Tinea which
    means growing worm.
  • Doctors added another word to tinea to tell where
    it is located
  • Example would be tinea capitis which means the
    scalp.

  • The most common sport to get ringworm is
    wrestling due to the environment they practice
    in.
  • Ring worm can be treated topically or
    systemically.
  • The best preventions are by minimizing sweat and
    moisture

Eczema

  • Eczema is a group of skin conditions that causes
    the skin to be irritated.
  • Atopic Eczema is the most common
  • Three percent of the U.S have eczema
  • Signs and symptoms are hot and itchy skin.
  • The skin can become very dry and scaly as well

  • The best ways to prevent eczema are by avoiding
    triggers and substances that stress skin, not too
    much water on the skin, wear cotton clothes, and
    stay cool.
  • Eczema cannot be cured, but ointments and sprays
    help the irritation.

Scabies

  • Scabies is a disease that affects the skin.
  • Tiny mites called sarcoptes lay eggs on the top
    layer of skin.
  • Signs and symptoms aresevere itching,bumps,
    blisters, or pus-filled bumps that break when you
    scratch them.
  • Scabies is contagious from person to person

  • Doctors believe mites can live as long as three
    days in clothing, bedding, and dust.
  • Scabies is spreaded more easily in crowded
    conditions.
  • It can take 4-6 weeks for symptoms of scabies to
    show for someone who has never had scabies before.

Jock Itch

  • Jock Itch is a common fungal infection of the
    groin and upper thighs.
  • This skin disorder is related to athletes foot
    and ringworm.
  • When the groin area gets sweaty and isnt dried
    properly it provides a perfect environment for
    fungi to multiply and thrive.

  • Jock itch is commonly found in males, but females
    can get it as well.
  • Signs and symptoms areitching, circular raised
    red rashes, burning in groin and anal area.
  • Jock itch usually responds to over-the-counter
    creams and sprays

Athletes Foot

  • Athletes foot is contagious so it is difficult to
    fully prevent.
  • Good tips to follow arestay away from damp
    areas, such as pool areas or public showers.
  • Wear cotton or wool socks that dont make your
    feet sweat or trap moisture.

  • Athletes foot is diagnosed by the doctor looking
    at the affected area. Over-the-counter creams and
    sprays will clear up affected area in about two
    weeks.
  • Athletes foot affects the soles of the feet and
    the area between the toes sometimes it can spread
    even to the toe nails

  • Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin condition.
  • There are five types of psoriasis.
  • The most common is Psoriatic Psoriasis about 80
    percent of people who develop psoriasis have this
    type.
  • Psoriatic psoriasis appears as raised reddish
    skin covered by silvery white scales.

  • The other four types of psoriasis are guttate,
    pustular, inverse, and erythrodermic.
  • More than 4.5 million adults in the U.S have been
    diagnosed with psoriasis.
  • It is equally found in both males and females.
