Introduction

• Even though the internet and social media have
  been around for only a short time, they have
  already impacted many aspects of history. From
  revolutions to Presidential elections, these new
  forms of technology are changing the way the
  world communicates and shares information. In
  this lesson, you will be examining several
  examples of ways that the internet and social
  media have impacted history.

Assignment

• On the next several slides you will be reading
  articles and watching news clips of events over
  the past year where social media played a very
  important role. After you review ALL the
  material please go o the Unit 4 assignments tab
  and complete the SM Impact Assignment. As
  always, please turn in via kmail and cut and
  paste directly into the body of the kmail no
  need to attach a file. We will be looking for
  evidence in your answers that shows you have read
  and viewed all the links in this slide
  presentation.

Presidential Elections

• Although the internet has been used by several
  Presidential candidates in recent elections,
  President Obama greatly increased its use in the
  2008 election.
• How was the ways the White House used the
  internet changed over the last 10 years? Check
  out the Way Back Machine (http//wayback.archive.o
  rg/web/) . This website has been taking snapshots
  of other sites and has them achieved. Search for
  the White House website (http//www.whitehouse.gov
  /) and review some versions of the site from the
  90s and early 2000s. Be prepared to discuss the
  differences in the site throughout the last 15
  years during class this week!

• As more and more people turn to social media as a
  way to communicate, they are also using these
  tools to spread information during times of
