What is Schizophrenia?
  • The most complex and severe
  • psychological disorder known.
  • Affects 1 in 100 people.
  • (1 in 10 if it runs in the family)
  • Definition A group of disorders characterized by
    confused and distorted thoughts, emotions, and
    perceptions.

  • Characteristics
  • Delusions false beliefs maintained in the face
    of contrary evidence.
  • Hallucinations perceptions in the absence of
    sensation. (i.e., hear voices, see visions)
  • Disturbances in affect (inappropriate emotions).
  • Normal movement deteriorates.
  • Diverted attention.
  • Lower functioning lifestyle in general.
