• Biomes
• Biomes are a region of the world defined by its
  climate and by the types of plants and animals
  that live there.
• The most important factor about biomes are the
  climate-yearly patterns of temperature and
  precipitation.
• Plants and animals are adapted by the climate.
• A biomes climate is affected by its latitude.
• Biomes near the equator generally is warm and
  wet. Closer to the poles, climates are colder
  and drier.
• Altitude also helps determine a biomes climate.
  Temperature drops as altitude increases.

• B. Forest Biomes
• 1. All forests form in areas with enough
  rainfall and warmth for trees to grow.
• 2. The types of trees and other plants differ
  depending on climate and landforms.
• 3. In tropical forests, trees grow close
  together to form a dense layer of leaves that
  provide shade for the forest floor. Its always
  warm there.
• 4. Temperate deciduous forests grow in areas
  that have warm summers but cold winters with
  lots of precipitation.
• 5. The Taiga biome is farthest north. Summers
  are short and mild, winters are long and cold
  and gets less precipitation.

• C. Desert and Tundra Biomes
• 1. Deserts are dry and generally get less than
  25 cm of rain each year. But not all deserts
  are hot.
• 2. Hot deserts are often found in areas between
  l altitudes 20 and 30 north or south.
• 3. Desert animals must find and conserve water
  and avoid overheating.
• 4. Many desert plants have leaves with waxy
  coating to hold in moisture.
• 5. Many animals in the desert stay inactive in
  burrows and cracks in the rocks.
• 6. The tundra is near the polar ice caps and
  high on mountains.

• D. Grasslands Biomes
• 1. Grasslands are biomes in which the main
  plants are grasses.
• 2. Rainfall varies, but in general, grasslands
  do not receive enough precipitation for many
  trees to grow.
• 3. Leaves of grassland plants are long and
  narrow to prevent water loss.
• 4. They also have long fibrous root systems that
  quickly soak up much of the scarce rain that
  falls.
