• 2.) 16 new data fields of interest were added to
  the exiting 19 fields for a total of 36 fields

  shapefile or interchange file)

• The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands
  (www.ramsar.org/) has adopted a target for 250
  million hectares of wetlands to be well managed
  in designated sites

Evaluation Methodology

• Convention on Biological Diversity has adopted a
  target of 275 million hectares of inland waters
  habitats to be conserved in protected areas by
  2010.
• CBD report on the effectiveness of 30 per cent of
  their protected areas by 2010.

  Objectives
• Provide harmonized Database where trends can be
  analyzed by park, country, region.
• Assist countries with reporting commitments. CBD

• Easy to complete by protected area staff

Synergies

• Increase in protected area -- This indicator
  measures the area of protected land ecosystems,
  inland water ecosystems, and marine ecosystems
  expressed as a percentage of the total area of
  the ecosystem in question. It represents the
  extent to which areas important for conserving
  biodiversity are protected from incompatible
  uses.
