INTRODUCTION
  • Imagine life without a stove or oven, life where
we no longer cooked our food. Life without the
    electric company, life without cash

Progression??
Regression??
3
FOOD STORAGE / PREPARATION
  • Research developments in the area of food storage
have been on the rise. Food could last up to 18
years using nitrogen to dehydrate the food.
Dehydration occurs when the moisture is removed
from the food, this allows the food to be lighter
    and easily transported.

4
FOOD STORAGE / PREPARATION cont.
  • This will be useful to meet the needs of
humanitarian relief in third world countries and
to prevent spoilage due to power failures.
Disadvantages are some loss of nutrients and a
slightly different taste than the original. Some
may argue that an art form will be lost if we no
    longer prepare our food.

5
HOMES
  • Environmental and economic pressures are guiding
housing in a new direction for the 21st century.
Homes, independent of the electric companys
power grid, will become common. With new
architectural design, homes will be powered with
sun and wind. Surplus energy could be sold to the
    electric company for a profit.

6
HOMES cont.
  • An advantage of these newly designed homes will
be freedom from the electric company. Lower to
eliminated electric bills with continuous power
availability, regardless of weather or equipment
failure, will enhance the living conditions of
the owner. However, the benefits will have a
cost. Construction of the home will no doubt be
well above the average cost of home construction.
Who will be able to afford it? Will this become
an issue of divided social classes?

7
CURRENCY / MONEY EXCHANGE
  • A global economy, with interdependence of foreign
trade, will continue to dominate the banking
industry. We have already witnessed a tremendous
accomplishment with the introduction of the Euro.
Businesses and banking are pushing for the
elimination of hard cash, creating an economy
    based on electric transactions.

8
CURRENCY, cont.
  • For many, the elimination of hard cash or check
    writing will revolutionize purchasing goods.
There will be less paper used as well as fewer
bounced checks. Transactions will also be faster.
  • Others may not see the benefits. Concern about
job loss due to mechanization, a dependence on
machines, and the dehumanization of the banking
industry are some of the issues that surround
    this technological advance.

9
CONCLUSION
  • With advances in food preparation, homes, and
currency, our 21st century society will be very
different than today. There are several advances
that will improve the quality of life, yet we
need to critically think about the negative
    effects these advances might have.
