Writing rules
  • A rule is written to show what happens to both
    the x coordinate and the y coordinate. If you
    are to translate a figure 4 units horizontally
    the rule is (x,y) (x 4, y 0) because
    horizontal motions use the X axis.
  • If you are to translate a figure -2 units
    horizontally, the rule is
  • (x,y) (x 4, y 0)

  • If you are to translate a figure 3 to the left
    and 2 up, the rule is (x,y) (x-3, y2)
