• Code name for the development of the atomic bomb
  for the US.
• Robert Oppenheimer was the leader of the
  scientists working to develop the atomic bomb.

The Decision to Bomb

• President Truman decided to bomb the Japanese
  instead of invading the mainland.
• Many historians have debated whether or not the
  US should have bombed the Japanese.
• Huge civilian casualties were expected with both
  plans.
