Formed Tamil United Liberation Front. Asked for a
separate independent state. (Tamil Eelam)
After idea for separated state was rejected,
Tamils became angry and dissatisfied with
government. Tamil youths formed the LTTE, as
non-violent methods were not effective.

- March 29, Killed five Indian fisherman off the
coast of Tamil Nadu and kidnap twelve others. - April 1, Killed six aid workers who were
constructing a housing scheme named "Village of
Hope" for Tamil children orphaned by the 2004
Asian Tsunami. Another three aid workers suffer
serious gunshot injuries. - April 12, Raided a village in Avarantalawa,
Vavuniya and shoot dead seven people. - May 28, Planted a bomb in Rathmalana targeting
a truck carrying Sri Lanka Police personnel
killing seven civilians and injuring more than 39
people. Amongst dead were one pregnant mother.
