  • Dont open a door too fast during a fire
    emergency or you may experience flashover

  • R - Remove anyone in immediate danger
  • A -Active/Alarm persons so everyone knows theres
    a fire
  • C -Contain the fire (close doors, place a lid on
    a grease fire)
  • E -Evacuate/Exit the building go to the
    designated meeting place

  • Twelve fire drills must be completed a year
  • Once a month
  • One during every shift each quarter
  • 9am - 5pm
  • 5pm - 11pm
  • Midnight - 7am (Residents MUST be asleep)
  • All staff must participate in at least one full
    evacuation drill per year

  • Fire drill scenarios should be used
  • The fire potentially starting from different
    locations within the house
  • Blocking off different areas so different exits
    are being used
  • Primary Exit
  • Secondary Exit

Fire Drills
  • When alarm sounds, begin evacuation immediately.
  • If resident is new OR has any changes physically
    (broken leg, etc.) a drill should be done.
  • Do not cause excitement or fear in the
    individuals served - Remember, we are role
    models!!
  • Maintain composure and keep full control over the
    evacuation process.
  • Keep individuals grouped, assist those who need
    it proceed to the nearest available exit.

  • Once outside
  • Assemble group in designated area.
  • Do a head count, ensure everyone is accounted
    for.
  • Remain outside until permission is given to
    reenter.

  • Any significantly problematic drills will be
    addressed by within 24 hours
  • an individuals refuses to evacuate
  • an individual does not evacuate under 2 1/2 mins
  • The SS/ROC should be notified immediately and
    another fire drill will need to take place within
    24 hours
