2ECOPRESS - AIMS
Appendix 2 (p. 2/12)
- Technically and economically optimised pressure
vessels from modern steels QT-HSS, TMCP, DUPLEX - Create conditions for removal of unnecessary
conservatism of existing rules using modern
reliability methods - Apply modern design by analysis models instead of
experienced based recommendations - Propose recommendations for efficient design,
manufacturing and testing for PV steels

Appendix 2 (p. 4/12)
5Status Report November 2000
Appendix 2 (p. 5/12)
- Workpackage 1 and 2 Review of limitations to
modern steels for PV in design,
manufacturing, testing and operation finished. - Definition of example vessel for demonstration
purpose of economic use of HSS ongoing. - Material delivery finished in May 2000. Rolling
finished. Delivery of material ongoing. - Testing matrix for HSS, TMCP and DUPLEX decided.
- Type of welding decided mostly X-weld and some
K-weld for qualification tests. WPS and PWHT
conditions defined until end of year. Development
of new S690 weld deposit for PWHT. - Modelling of Limit State Design started and
application of modern Structural integrity
concepts decided (NOTE limit states are brittle
fracture, ductiled fracture and ductile
instability).
6Preview 2001/1
Appendix 2 (p. 6/12)
- Development of structural integrity models able
to describe limit states of brittle
and ductile fracture for PV. - FEM calculations serving for point 1.
- Basic material characterisation of all plates.
- Welding of the test plates QT and DUPLEX
- Extended material testing of base metall and weld
metal and PWHT weldments (fracture mechanics and
wide plate), will go on through the year.
Statistical data evaluation will serve as input
to point 1. - Fabrication of dished ends from welded TMCP and
testing of material taken after forming. - Biaxial tests on DUPLEX steels (only 6mm
thickness possible)
