HRHS Course Optionsfor 10th 12th graders

• We ask all students to choose their courses
  carefully. It is very important to make informed
  decisions.

Selection of courses

• You will be selecting courses today.
• You will be printing your course selections
  twice, one for you and one for your counselor.
• If you or your parent/guardian want to make a
  change to your schedule, write the change on your
  registration form and turn it in to the guidance
  office within 1-2 days from today.

Regular or Honors Level Classes

• Some of you will consider taking Honors level
  classesbut should you?
• Consider these clues to your honors potential
• Are you a strong student in that subject? You
  have to have achieved a 85 or better in an Honors
  Class or have an 93 average in regular classes.
• Are you willing to do more than the minimum
  amount of work required?
• Do you look for challenges outside of class?
• Are you always prepared?

Required English Classes

• There are four required English classes
• English I
• English II or Honors
• English III, Honors, or AP English Language
• English IV, Honors, or AP English Literature

• You can take an additional English class as an
  elective
• Speech and Debate
• Mythology
• Intro to Broadcasting, Broadcasting II, III, or
  IV (online application required)
• Yearbook (online application required)

Required Math Classes

• Every year, you should take at least one math
  course. Which one depends on how you are doing in
  your current math class. Here are the options
• Math I
• Math II or Honors Math II
• Math III or Honors Math III
• Advanced Functions and Modeling (AFM)
• Discrete Math
• Pre-Calculus (Honors)
• AP Statistics
• AP Calculus AB yearlong
• AP Calculus AB/BC 1st semester/2nd semester
  pairing
• If you received a letter stating that you have
  been selected to take foundations of math I, II,
  or III please select that option today along with
  your other math course (math I, II, or III)

• A Physical Science Physical Science, Chemistry,
  Honors Chemistry, Physics, or Honors Physics

• World Languages are NOT a graduation requirement.
• However, you need to take 2 World Languages in
  order to go to a four-year College/University
• Colleges like to see a World Language in your
  senior year, so consider how many credits in
  World Languages you expect to get. Your options

• AP courses are college level classes taught at
  HRHS. These classes are very challenging and
  after taking an AP exam, you could earn college
  credit.

  GPA for an AP Course.

• North Carolina Virtual Public Schools Online
  Classes (NCVPS)
• This is an online option for high school credit
  that requires self-discipline, strong reading and
  writing skills, and motivation to monitor your
  own progress. Students can take these classes
  during the school year during the regular school
  day, after school at home in addition to the
  classes you are taking at HRHS, or at home during
  the summer.
• Consider VPS when
• 1) You want to take a class that isnt offered at
  HRHS 
• 2) You want to retake a course you failed (retake
  over the summer)
• If you are interested in a VPS course choose
  NCVPS Placeholder as one of your courses and
  pick up a user agreement today. Fill out the user
  agreement and return to guidance within 1-2 days.
  You have not officially chosen the VPS course
  until you return your user agreement.

College and Career Promise

• RCCC College Transfer Classes
• This program allows juniors and seniors to take
  classes for high school honors credit as well as
  college credit. These classes are offered online
  or at RCCC.
• RCCC Career Technical Classes
• This program allows juniors and seniors to take
  classes for high school credit as well as college
  credit. These classes are offered online or at
  RCCC.
• Students must Have a 3.0 GPA or higher, have
  strong self-discipline, meet testing benchmarks,
  and enroll in one program of study.
• If you are interested in a CCP course choose
  CCP Placeholder as one of your courses and pick
  up a user agreement today. Fill out the user
  agreement and return to guidance within 1-2 days.
  You have not officially chosen the CCP course
  until you return your user agreement.

• Remember if you want to make any changes you need
  to turn in your registration form signed by a
  parent with the changes written on it 1-2 days
  from today. Otherwise you will just keep your
  form.

Registration Directions

• Click on the Powerschool Parent Portal link under
  Resources (cabarrus.powerschool.com/public)
• Type your Power School username and password
  (must be in ALL CAPS)
• Click Class Registration
• Read Instructions and begin choosing courses. You
  will have to choose 1 course per box until
  alternates, then you must choose 3 (they are in
  alpha order)
• Click on the pencil to get a list of courses for
  each subject area
• Click the course and then click okay
• Click submit
• Click print twice
• Keep one copy and give the other one to us
• If you are doubling up in a core class put the
  second class under electives
• If you have completed all graduation requirements
  within a category, leave it blank
