OPENING WORD WINDOW
  • Word Window opens as a new Document in a print
    layout view.
  • A word window contains
  • Title Bar
  • Menu Bar
  • Standard Toolbar
  • Formatting Toolbar
  • Ruler
  • Insertion Point
  • End-of-Document Marker
  • Scroll Bars
  • Status Bar
  • Office Assistant

OPENING WORD WINDOW
  • There are three ways to create a new document
  • Automatically a new document opens when you
    launch Word
  • Go to File and look for New (CtrlN)
  • In the Standard Toolbar there is a small Blank
    Document Paper (far left to the top corner)
  • There are also three ways to open a previously
    saved file
  • Go to File and look for Open
  • There is an Open tool in the standard toolbar
    that is a small yellow folder
  • In the File menu, all the way down, you can see
    your 4 previously saved files

OPENING WORD WINDOW
  • Word has four ways to view a Document
  • Normal- used for typing, editing, formatting
  • Web Layout- shows how your text is in a web page
    form
  • Print Layout- shows how your file will be printed
  • Outline- to create and edit outlines
  • Changing your Views
  • Go to View Menu and select your view
  • The four views are also located at the left
    corner bottom of your Word Window

INSERTION POINT
  • Another name for insertion point is cursor.
  • Its physical appearance looks like a blinking
    line.
  • Its role in the Word Window is to indicate where
    you are typing
  • The I-Beam shows where your mouse pointer is
  • In your word Document your cursor can change from
    an arrow into an I-beam
  • Moving the Insertion point
  • Mouse
  • Arrow Keys
  • Ctrl Key
  • Page Down

BACKSPACE/DELETE/UNDO/REDO
  • To erase something in your Word document you use
    Backspace and Delete keys
  • Backspace keys erases to the left Delete key
    erases to right
  • Undo button lets you erase the last thing in your
    document
  • Undo button is used when making mistakes or
    changing something
  • Undo button learns by its computer heart 300
    actions
  • Two ways to undo
  • Go to edit Menu and look for undo on the very
    top (ctrlz)
  • The undo button is also located in the Standard
    toolbar and its physical appearance is a blue
    arrow pointing to the left
  • Redo Button lets you reverse the undo action
  • Redo button is found in the Edit Menu (ctrly)
    and Standard Toolbar just like the undo Button

CUT/COPY/PASTE
  • The Cut/Copy/Paste buttons are found in the
    Standard Toolbar.
  • Cut button lets you delete the item or thing and
    saves it in the clipboard.
  • Clipboard is a place to store you cut/paste/copy
    items.
  • Paste button lets you get text from clipboard and
    paste in another location in document or a
    different document.
  • Copy button lets you copy selected text or
    something and it is saved in the clipboard
  • Copy CTRL C Paste CTRL V Cut
    CTRL X

SAVE/ SAVE AS
  • To Save
  • Go to File Menu and look for Save (ctrl S)
  • You can also find the Save Button in the Standard
    Toolbar
  • Its physical appearance looks like a floppy disk
  • To Save As
  • Go to File Menu and look for Save As
  • To save it in a specific location open the Save
    In box, which opens automatically when you open
    Save as after the save in box opens, save it
    where you want to and press save
  • To save File under a new name
  • Go to File Menu look for Save As, the save box
    opens, Type the new name in the File Name, and
    Click Save

PRINT PRINT PREVIEW
  • Instead of wasting paper because you did not like
    the way your document looks when it was printed,
    you should most definitely check how it looks
    like with Print Preview
  • To Print Preview go to File Menu and look for
    Print Preview
  • Another way to use The print Preview button is in
    the Standard toolbar
  • Its physical appearance is the a blank word
    document with a magnifying glass
  • The Print preview button lets you zoom, view
    ruler, see multiple pages, and shrink to fit
  • To print you go to File menu and look for print
    (ctrl p) and or the print button is also found
    in the standard toolbar
  • The print Dialogue box contains Print selection,
    Page Range Selection, Copies Selection, Printing
    Selection, and Print Section.

BASIC FORMATTING INTRO
  • Microsoft Word Formatting lets your word Document
    be creative and unique. It lets you design it the
    way you want it to be. Using these Basic
    formatting features
  • Align Buttons
  • Using the Paragraph Dialogue Box
  • Using Tabs/ Rulers/Page Set up Dialogue Box
  • Bold/Italics/Underline/Format Painter
  • Font Size

Align Buttons
  • Align Buttons lets you align text. There are two
    ways to format your text
  • Manually- Allows creativity and control
  • Style Template- Gives your document a
    sophisticated look
  • The Align Buttons are Align left, Align Right,
    Justify, and Center
  • Left Align- Anything you selected in your word
    document is aligned to the left
  • Right Align- Anything you selected in your word
    document is aligned to the right
  • Center- Anything you selected in your document is
    aligned to the center
  • Justify- Anything you selected in your document
    is aligned straight in the edge margins on both
    the right and left sides

Paragraph Dialogue Box
  • Paragraph Dialogue box helps customize the
    paragraphs by
  • Line spacing
  • Indents
  • Line Spacing helps you read and focus better on
    the document.
  • Line Spacing is measured by points and or lines
  • There are ways of line spacing Single, Double,
    and or One and a half
  • To line space Go to Format Menu look for
    Paragraph and select the Indents and Spacing tab
  • Paragraph Spacing is used before, after, and or
    before and after a paragraph

Using Tabs/Rulers/ Page Set up
  • Tabs are used two ways To create several
    columns and or indent a single line of text
  • Left Tabs stop at .5 inches by default, insertion
    point moves
  • To Change Tabs Go to Format Menu, look for Tabs,
    you can change the alignment and leader
  • With the ruler you can adjust the width of
    margins and tabs . It also helps you with
    creating several columns, show column placement,
    and or the distance between columns.
  • The ruler has 5 set of tabs Left tab, Right tab,
    Center Tab, Bar tab and Decimal Tab.
  • The page setup is in the File Menu you can
    change the size of the margins, paper size, and
    layout.
  • Portrait is the default page orientation

Bold/Italics/Underline/Format Painter
  • There are 4 type of style text
  • Bold
  • Italics
  • Underline
  • Color
  • Fonts
  • Serif- has curves and edges extending from each
    line
  • Sans Serif- its a plain font
  • Script- its similar to handwriting font

  • These buttons are found in the Formatting Toolbar
  • Bold looks like this Bold (ctrl B)
  • Italics Looks like this Italics (ctrl I)
  • Underline Looks like this Underline (ctrl U)
  • To change the Color of Text Use the Color
    Palette
  • To Use format Painter Its in the Standard
    Toolbar
  • Its physical appearance is a yellow painting brush

  • The Advance Formatting lets you edit your new
    Document with more creativity and with advance
    tools to make your document artistic.
  • These Advance tools are
  • Show/ Hide Codes
  • Text Boxes
  • Tables
  • Inserting Pictures

Show/Hide Codes
  • The show/hide button lets you see the paragraph
    marks, tabs and spaces.
  • The show/hide button is used for
  • general editing
  • Combining two paragraphs
  • Deleting tabs

TEXT BOXES
  • To insert a textbox you can go to the drawing
    toolbar and or the Insert Menu
  • You can insert a text box anywhere in the
    document and format them the way you want them.
  • To resize a Text Box Go to one of the borders of
    the box or corners and the cursor will turn to a
    diagonally arrow and then resize it the way you
    want it to be.
  • To move a Text Box click on the one of the
    borders and the cursor will to turn to a
    crosshair with arrows. The crosshair with arrows
    means you can move it anywhere.
  • To format you click on the text box border and
    Format Text box will appear and you can edit the
    Color and Lines, Size Layout and Textbox.

INSERTING PICTURES
  • To insert a picture go to Insert Menu, Picture
    button, then you can either get a picture from a
    file or clip art.
  • To adjust the setting of the picture just click
    on the picture and the picture toolbar will
    appear.
  • Two Types of Graphics Drawing Objects And
    Pictures
  • To insert a Scanned image Go to Insert Menu,
    then Pictures, Then from Scanner or camera, then
    choose web quality or Print quality
  • To advance edit your text box right click the
    borders to let appear the Format text box

TABLES
  • The Word table lets you format, edit, delete, and
    move text without changing your document
  • To insert a table Go to Insert Menu then table.
    After, you choose the number of columns and rows.
  • To create a table using Drawing table buttons
  • Go to Tables and borders Toolbar then on Draw
    Tables Button
  • Then you draw a table with the Pencil Button

  • A Cell
  • A row
  • Multiple rows
  • A Column
  • Multiple columns
  • Entire table
  • To move a table Use Tab key to move to right,
    Use Shift and Tab to move to left, and Up and
    Down arrows to move insertion point
  • To write on the cell just click in the inside and
    start typing
