An anthropophilic fungus, which has become the
most common and widely distributed dermatophyte
of humans. It frequently causes chronic
infections of skin, nails and rarely scalp.
Granulomatous lesions may sometimes occur.
Invaded hairs show ectothrix or endothrix
infection but do not fluoresce under Wood's
ultra-violet light. Distribution
