8Random bits convey no information. The amount
of information in 1,000,000,000,000,000 random
bits is 0. Data must be organized to convey
information. A code allows a person (or a
computer) to find that organization.
9Codes must be standardized if we are to exchange
information. We used a portion of the
ISO-8859-1 code in this example. It is the
default code in all popular Web browsers.
