Title: Maryland high school shooting
1Maryland high school shooting
2Two students were wounded in a shooting at a high
school in Frederick, Maryland, on Wednesday. The
shooters are still at large. The shots were fired
outside the gymnasium building, while a
basketball game was being played inside. The
victims were both male and were rushed to a
medical facility in Baltimore. Their injuries
were not life-threatening. Frederick High
School's cafeteria was searched, and the players
and crowd went there from the gymnasium to wait
while the rest of the building was being
searched. The investigation is ongoing. "It is
unclear, at this time, how many people were
involved in the shooting and what the possible
motive may have been," police said. The school
will be closed for students on Thursday, but
teachers will report to work, the school said.

- Brian Williams, the anchor of the "NBC Nightly
News," apologized on Wednesday for claiming -- as
recently as last Friday -- that he'd been on a
helicopter that was "forced down after being hit
by an RPG." The incident happened on March 24,
2003. A Chinook helicopter was forced down by
enemy fire. But Williams was not aboard. It was
reported on Wednesday that "Williams arrived in
the area about an hour later on another
helicopter," one that "took no fire and landed
later beside the damaged helicopter due to an
impending sandstorm from the Iraqi desert."
Williams is blaming a foggy memory. "I made a
mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago,"
he said on Wednesday's "Nightly News,"
specifically addressing his false comments from
last Friday. But he did not address any of the
past occasions when he apparently misspoke about
the RPG attack. - Jordan's king vowed to wage a "harsh" war against
ISIS after the militants burned a captive pilot
in a cage and released a video of the killing.
The images have sent waves of revulsion across
the region. King Abdullah II consulted with
military chiefs Wednesday, after cutting short a
U.S. trip, to formulate a response. Jordan is
part of a U.S.-led military alliance that has
been bombing ISIS targets in Syria for nearly
five months. In a statement, the king said Jordan
is waging a war of principles against the
militants. He said that Jordan's response to the
killing of the pilot "will be harsh because this
terrorist organization is not only fighting us,
but also fighting Islam and its pure values."
Abdullah pledged to hit ISIS militants "hard in
the very center of their strongholds. - The leaders of Germany and France launched a new
diplomatic initiative over Ukraine on Thursday,
announcing they would fly together to Kiev and
Moscow with a proposal to resolve the conflict
that could be "acceptable to all". The
coordinated trip by Chancellor Angela Merkel and
President Francois Hollande comes as rebels
steadily advance on a railway hub held by
Ukrainian troops after launching an offensive
that scuppered a five-month-old ceasefire.
Washington has begun openly talking of arming
Ukraine for the first time. U.S. Secretary of
State John Kerry also flew to Kiev on Thursday,
although he had no plans to go to Moscow. His
likely cabinet colleague, defense secretary
nominee Ashton Carter, told lawmakers on
Wednesday that he favored arming Ukraine's
forces.
