Title: A Christmas Carol

1
A Christmas Carol
  • Lesson 11 Stave 4

2
Lesson Objectives
  • At the end of this lesson we will have made
predictions about the text, using quotes to
    support our points.

3
Starter Describing Scrooge
  • Weve done this before, but lets do an updated
version... Compile a list of adjectives to
    describe Scrooge.
  • With those words, devise an acrostic poem, using
    either SCROOGE or BAH HUMBUG

4
For example....
  • Saucy old man,
  • Cheap and petty,
  • Rarely caring for anyone but himself.
  • Others are not
  • Of his concern,
  • Generosity has no place in him.
  • Everyone should pity this old man...

Lets have some volunteers share their poems...
5
Recap
  • What has happened so far, in the story?

6
Whole Class Reading
  • Please follow along, as the teacher reads from
the start of Stave Four to Spirit, I beseech
    you!

7
Playing Detective
  • You may or may not have an idea of who the dead
man is however, we must use our critical reading
skills to determine the identity of the dead man.
  • Find clues to help prove who the dead man is,
using the text. Write down quotes, and then
briefly explain what this tells the reader about
    the dead man.

8
Continue reading...
  • Follow along, as we continue reading to the end
    of Stave Four.
  • After reading, write a diary entry as Scrooge,
reflecting on how much he feels changed by the
experiences of the past few nights.

9
Plotting the Changes In Scrooge
  • How has Scrooge changed??
  • For your assessment piece, you will be asked to
discuss how the four ghosts help to change
Scrooge. We will track his progress in point
form, as a class. Please see Smart File, entitled
    Plotting Changes in Scrooge.
