CEWiT Overview

• Centre for Excellence in Wireless Technology
  (CEWiT)
• An initiative of the Government of India
• Ministry of Communications and Information
  Technology
• Set up in 2004 - a public-private partnership
• Between the Indian government, industry and
  academia.
• Located in Chennai to leverage synergy with
  wireless RD at IITM
• 2004-06 - CEWiT studying emerging broadband
  wireless technologies
• Focus on the market requirements of India

• CEWiT has started a number of key research
  activities in OFDM
• IEEE 802.16 d/e (WiMAX), 3GPP-LTE
• WiFiRe - a proprietary extension of WiFi MAC for
  rural applications

• Developed a comprehensive simulator for OFDM -

• Develop a HW/SW technology demonstrator

  IPR
