Mission
  • MISSION To advocate for and advance the founding
    principles and tenets of the chiropractic
    profession in the area of vertebral subluxation.
  • Protect the right of all doctors of chiropractic
    to provide subluxation correction and of all
    people to choose to receive such care.
  • Advance and promote traditional chiropractic to
    all people, including the public, the media,
    legislators and all those directly or indirectly
    associated with the chiropractic profession.
  • Provide important clarification of the role of
    subluxation-centered chiropractic in health care.
  • Support evidence-based practice guidelines and
    related research which protect the rights of
    patients to receive chiropractic care for the
    analysis and correction of vertebral
    subluxations.

  • Emphasize the difference in philosophy and
    approach between chiropractic and medicine and
    advance the traditional chiropractic focus on
    detecting, reducing and correcting vertebral
    subluxations to enhance the expression of the
    body's inherent capacity to be healthy.

  • To fulfill our mission and advance the
    chiropractic profession, we commit to the
    following
  • Communication Make communication a priority by
    forming a broadly constituted Task Force charged
    with increasing awareness and understanding of
    the role of vertebral subluxation correction
    within and outside the profession.

  • Research Create a vertebral subluxation-centered
    research culture within the profession. This will
    involve collecting data on vertebral subluxation
    as it relates to health outcomes, supporting the
    development and application of subluxation-centere
    d guidelines, encouraging practice-based health
    outcomes research, supporting subluxation-centered
    peer reviewed journals, and exploring ways to
    involve all stakeholders in this process.

  • Governance accountability Enhance the internal
    accountability of the profession by creating a
    network of active subluxation-centered
    practitioners who can monitor national and local
    regulatory agency actions, serve on licensing and
    regulatory boards, take leadership roles in
    professional organizations, host local leadership
    development workshops, and participate in inter-
    and intra-disciplinary forums.

  • Remove non-chiropractic requirements Initiate a
    targeted campaign to remove any adjunctive
    therapy as a mandatory requirement of
    chiropractic licensure in order to safeguard the
    right to practice for those who do not wish to
    include therapeutic approaches in their scope of
    practice.

  • Model practice act Develop and implement a model
    chiropractic practice act that strengthens the
    legal status of subluxation-centered
    chiropractic, clarifies our scope of practice,
    and allows for differentiation from chiropractors
    wishing to obtain optional certification outside
    traditional chiropractic.

  • Mutual support Assist vertebral
    subluxation-centered chiropractors to develop
    effective practices that recognize the need for
    specificity of analysis and correction, provide
    the best possible chiropractic patient care,
    maintain high ethical standards, incorporate
    sound business and financial principles, and be
    better equipped to market themselves to their
    patients and community. This will be accomplished
    through subluxation-focused mentoring and
    coaching programs, business training, and the
    development and provision of information and
    resources for chiropractors wishing to maintain a
    subluxation-centered practice.

Accomplishments
  • Communication
  • The Foundation sends out a weekly e-mail
    newsletter that clarifies and reports on issues
    crucial to the subluxation movement.
  • The Foundation provided a scholarship for a
    student to participate in the WHO intern program
    in Geneva.
  • The Foundation arranged for a 3 month internship
    at the United Nations on the UN Health Committee
    for Christie Kwon.
  • We have a close working relationship with this
    Health Committee
  • The Foundation has written papers on topics
    related to subluxation, legislation and Medicare
    that have been published.
  • The Foundation provided formal submissions and
    testimony in the recent USDOE Hearings on the CCE

Accomplishments
  • Research
  • The Foundation together with the Chiropractic
    Leadership Alliance funded student research
    scholarships totaling over 30,000.
  • Currently developing a health outcomes research
    project involving military veterans.
  • Exploring grants for the conduct of research as
    well as grants for the development of subluxation
    based guidelines.
  • Currently establishing Advisory Committee to
    launch a prospective, longitudinal health
    outcomes study of subjects under subluxation
    based care.
  • Established an Independent Human Subjects
    Research Review Board and have reviewed and
    approved about a dozen research projects in the
    United States and Europe.

  • Partnered with the International Federation of
    Chiropractors and Organizations (IFCO) on a
    Committee that is focused on addressing state
    board representation of subluxation centered
    chiropractic
  • Foundation has contacted each state board in the
    United States through the Freedom of Information
    Act seeking records regarding the Doctor of
    Chiropractic Medicine Degree.
  • The Foundation is involved with discussions
    regarding alternative accrediting agencies,
    curriculum development and educational standards
    for subluxation centered chiropractic education.

  • Foundation President Dr. Christopher Kent has
    drafted a Model Practice Act for use by domestic
    and International groups seeking subluxation
    oriented statutory and legislative language.

So What Are the Options?

Curricular Freedom Model
  • AKA - Two Track Model
  • Substantial structural and personnel changes
    would be made within the CCE in order to create
    two autonomous accreditation Councils.
  • These Councils would enable curricular freedom
    for both the primary care and conservative
    factions.
  • The key for this model to be successful is the
    ability for both Councils to work autonomously.
  • This restructuring of the CCE would then offer
    accreditation of two programs leading to
    chiropractic degrees that would be offered by
    institutions.
  • One program would lead to the already existing
    Doctor of Chiropractic and the other would lead
    to an as yet unnamed degree.
  • This proposal would have to include the
    development of similar autonomous bodies and
    testing programs within the National Board of
    Chiropractic Examiners or establish an additional
    testing arm.

Curricular Freedom Model
  • This proposal does not include the concept of
    tiering or a hierarchy in any way as it is
    detrimental to both factions.
  • More so, it suggests that the subluxation
    centered chiropractor is inferior.
  • Under no circumstances would this proposal move
    forward under such concepts.
