    Bulgaria between 632-668 AD.
  • It was chosen as a capital city by Khan Kubrat.
  • It was located on the Taman Peninsula. (todays

    well protected for its time.
  • Its founder Khan Kubrat, died there.
  • Archeologists found Fanagorias ruins in the 18th
    century.

  • Pliska was the capital of Bulgaria between
  • 681-893 AD.
  • It was chosen by Khan Asparoukh after the
    foundation of the Bulgarian State.
  • The city was located south of the river Danube on
    over 23 km².

  • The city was the place where Knyaz Boris I
    accepted the Christianity and spread it across
    the country afterwards.
  • Pliska was a city that was ruled by many
    generations of great rulers such as Khan Tervel,
    Khan Krum and Khan Omurtag.

    893-970 AD.
  • It was chosen to be the second capital of
    Bulgaria by Tsar Simeon I because of the need of
    a new capital after the Christianization of
    Bulgaria.

    Bulgarian State between 1185-1393.
  • It was announced as a capital by the brothers
    Asen and Petar who declared the end of the
    Byzantine rule in 1185.

    Tarnovo developed fast, as it became the most
    secure Bulgarian castle, as well as a cultural
    center of Bulgaria.
