Innate/Nonspecific Immunity

• Skin, tears, mucous membranes, nose hair, and
  cilia.
• Acts like a barrier against pathogens
• Destroys pathogens on contact
• Traps pathogens

Adaptive/Specific Immunity

• Develops specifically tailored defenses
• Includes lymphocytes, lymph vessels, lymph nodes,
  thymus gland, tonsils and spleen

Lymph System

• Carries fluid away from body tissues to the
  circulatory system thus helping to maintain fluid
  balance.
• Filters blood and lymph so pathogens are removed
  from the body.
