• Medical illustrations feature key-to-slice
  locator brains.
• Pathway images include boxed flowcharts for easy
  mastery by students.
• Parts of the nervous system are colored
  consistently throughout the text.
• All labels consist of terms used in the text
  itself.
• Illustrations feature sequential magnifications.
• Where appropriate, photos are integrated into
  medical illustrations.
• Many concepts that are not illustrated in most

• At two or three points in each chapter, we
  provide an interim summary.
• Interim summary pedagogy includes summary points,

Photos

• Photographs are all in color with the exception
  of historical photos.
• Each chapter is prefaced by a high interest photo
  (such as the hungry squirrel included here).
• Photos were selected to engage students. For
  instance, instead of showing an MRI machine with
  a patient, we show a fully loaded pallet being
  pulled into the machine. Students will remember
  the strength of the magnets used in this
  technology.
