  possessions that evoked happy memories were

• V. To plead in favor of to defend.
• My dads job is to advocate for people who are
  accused of performing a crime.
• N. One who argues for or defends a person, group,
  or idea.
• Mike was an advocate for the schools newspaper
  when the principal was threatening to shut it
  down.

Atrocity

• N. An act of great cruelty and wickedness.
• Hitler was known for the atrocities he visited on
  the Jewish people.
• Atrocious
• Adj. 1. Very brutal, wicked or cruel.
• The Nazis were atrocious to their prisoners.
• 2. Appallingly bad outrageous.
• The conditions in the school were atrocious
  there was dirty and graffiti everywhere, and the
  food in the cafeteria was all rotten.

Commemorate

• V. To serve as a memorial to to remember in
  solemn manner.
• The Lincoln Memorial was built to comemorate
  Abraham Lincoln.

Dialect

• N. A form of a language spoken in a certain
  geographical region that has its own grammar,
  pronunciation, and vocabulary.
• Chinese people have a wide variety of dialects
  and tones things can get confusing.

• Adj. Having terrible consequences urgent or
  desperate.
• Mr. Wu, you are being charged for spray painting
  I hate English on the wall, wetting paper
  towels and throwing them on the ceiling of the
  bathroom, and refusing to admit that you did all
  of these things, even though we have proof I am
  afraid you are now in a dire situation.

• N. A group that enjoys the superior status to
  others.
• The elite players showed no mercy playing against
  the weaker team.
• Adj. Considered superior to others.
• There were three different levels in the
  basketball league elite, intermediate, and
  beginner.

• V. To make greater or better.
• My reading skills have been enhanced because I
  had the greatest English teacher ever.

Flagrant

• Adj. Clearly offensive or bad conspicuously
  acting against what is right.
• In basketball, you arent allowed to hit people,
  so when Charles punched Larry in the face, it was
  a flagrant foul.

Languish

• V. To lose hope, strength, or vitality because of
  neglect of bad conditions.
• After Id been in the poorly-run prison for six
  months, I began to languish the lack of good
  food and proper cleaning made being in jail that
  much worse.

Mute

• V. To soften or tone down the sound of.
• You can mute the sound of a trumpet if you put
  something in the bell of the horn to quiet it.
• Adj. Not speaking or not able to speak silent.
• In the video game, Davids character became mute
  after his characters tongue was lost in a game
  of poker.

Reprisal

• N. A retaliation for an injury.
• The smack in the face was reprisal for punching
  Seean in the arm.

Turmoil

• N. A state of confusion or agitation tumult.
• The fire drill in the morning put all the
  students in turmoil and threw them off for the
  rest of the day.

Wreak

• V. To bring about or inflict.
• Alex wreaked havoc on the opposing team,
  destroying their defense in no time.
