  Battle of Alamance
• Governor Tryon was responsible for the
  construction of the Tryon Palace

Regulator Movement

• The first Regulator meeting took place in Orange
  County
• Regulators westerners who wanted better control
  of the government

The Spread of the Regulators

• In the 1760s, Governor Tryon persuaded the
  Assembly to move the capital to New Bern
• Tryon Palace was constructed meeting place for
  the council and the governors home
• Regulators protested in 1768

• In the 1770s the committees of correspondence
  was formed to keep the colony informed of British
  actions

• Patriots colonists who resisted the tighter
  controls imposed by the British
• N.C patriots captured Fort Johnston in July 1775
  on the lower Cape Fear River

Battle of Moores Creek Bridge

• On February 27,1776, minutemen met loyalists at
  the bridge over Moores Creek
• The defeat of the loyalists left N.C free from
  invasion from Britain for 4 yrs.
