Purposes of Sentences

• Declarative (Declare) Making a statement
• Interrogative (Interrogate) Asks a question
• Imperative (Urgent) Gives a command
• Exclamatory (Exclaim!) Expresses emotion

Parts of Sentences 1Phrases

• Prepositional-begins with a preposition in, at,
  on, under, etc.
• Participial-begins with a present or past
  participle leading, grown
• Infinitive-begins with an infinitive to the
  verb

• Independent-
• makes a complete sentence
• Communicates an idea by itself
• Dependent-
• may be part of another clause
• does not communicate a complete thought
• modifies part of another clause
