Title: Be Proactive
1(No Transcript)
2Be Proactive
- I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods.
- I do the right thing, even when no one is
looking. - I choose how I am going to respond.
3The Odyssey of the Ant
4The Odyssey of the Ant
- The ant had a choice to either wait for
something to happen, or to MAKE something happen.
-
- Sometimes the prize isnt what is at the end,
but rather the fact that we made the choice to go
after it in the first place. Its up to you to
choose how you will respond in difficult times. - A persons true character shows when times are
difficult, not necessarily when things are going
right. - Being proactive means you can choose your
attitude and how to respond to YOUR world!
5Reactive or Proactive
6Reactive
Proactive
Your sister ruins your favorite shirt and you
storm into her room screaming at her.
Your best friend says something that hurts your
feelings and you decide he must be having a bad
day, so you blow it off.
7Reactive
Proactive
Somebody says something rude to you, so you push
them.
Your dad makes a really ridiculous comment in
front of your friends, so you yell at him and
tell him to leave you alone.
8Reactive
Proactive
Your parents wont let you spend the night at
your friends house. You stomp off and slam the
door to your room.
Your little brother keeps asking you to read to
him and you dont want to, but you decide to do
it anyway.
9Reactive
Proactive
Your mom says, We need to talk, and you say,
Not now, because you know its going to end up
in a fight.
A classmate makes fun of you for getting a
question wrong in class. You get upset and sulk
the rest of the day.
10Reactive
Proactive
What will happen to our proactive volunteer if I
ask him or her to open the bottle? What about
our reactive volunteer?
11- Point Reactive people are like this bottle of
soda. The soda gets shaken up and eventually
will explode. Proactive people are more like the
water bottle. They think before they respond and
you can shake them up all you want, but nothing
happens. -
12Abraham Lincoln
- Would you have given up on politics if you
had been defeated 7 times in your run for
political office? He was defeated for
legislature, defeated for speaker, defeated for
nomination to Congress, defeated for Senate,
defeated for nomination to Vice Presidency,
defeated again for Senate. Yet he hung in there
and succeeded in becoming the 16th, and one of
the most respected, presidents of the United
States.
This person ran for political office seven times
and was defeated each time.
13Walt Disney
- All this person wanted to do was to sketch
cartoons. When he applied with a Kansas City
newspaper, the editor told him, "Its easy to see
from these sketches that you have no talent." - No studio would give him a job. He ended up
doing publicity work for a church in an old,
dilapidated garage.
The old garage he worked in was in such bad
shape that it had mice. One day, he sketched one
of those mice. The mouse one day became to be
known as the world famous "Mickey Mouse."
14Dr. Seuss
- The writer decided to show their book to a
24th publisher. - By the way, the 24th publisher sold six
million copies.
This persons first childrens book was rejected
by 23 publishers. All 23 publishers thought that
the book was ridiculous and would never sell a
single copy.
15Coca Cola
- Instead of giving up, this company continued
to stay in business. Turns out the name of their
soft drink has become one of the most
recognizable words in the world.
In the first year of marketing their new soft
drink, this company sold only 400 bottles.
Thats barely one soft drink sold a day.
16- The lesson Being proactive is the first step
toward taking responsibility for your life.
Dont let other people determine the path you
will choose. Like all of the people that
overcame failures, be the water bottle and dont
lose your focus when you get shaken up! -
