Surgical Robotics
Surgical Robotics were developed to overcome the
limitations of minimally invasive surgery and to
enhance the capabilities of surgeons. They are
technological developments that use robotic
systems to aid in surgical procedures.
In the Future We could have surgical robotics
performing operations autonomously. We could be
able to preform remote operations using satellite
uplink. So a surgeon in the United States could
perform a triple bypass on someone in
Antarctica. We could do more invasive surgeries
with less invasive procedures to minimize
surgical effects on a patient.
Benefits More Precision Surgeons dont tire
as quickly as they are sitting instead of
standing over the patient during the surgery
Decreased blood loss during surgery Smaller
incisions may lead to less pain and quicker
healing of the patient The cost of the
equipment to hospitals is more beneficial in the
long run
Drawbacks The surgeons would need more
training . The learning phase of the surgical
robotic procedures is more intensive than normal
surgeries and they can take twice as long for
those who are learning, which causes operating
room tie-ups. The cost of procedure is higher
than the cost of a normal surgical procedure
The Surgeon is not able to feel the pressure of
the body when performing the surgery making it
hard to know how much pressure to apply.
