Critical Things to Know
  • The Yellow Question mark will tell you what to do
    with that area or field
  • Turn Editing on (it will say off when you first
    log in) is the FIRST thing you do as the
    instructor!

Add a Resource - Uploading a Document
  • How to upload files
  • ? Add a resource (choose compose a web page)
  • ? Click on chain link to Insert web link
  • ? Browse twice for the file you need
  • ? Open and Upload file
  • ? Double click the file in the upper dialog box
  • ? Click ok
  • When a file is added from a courses Home Page,
    links can easily be created to that file from
    anywhere in the course
  • Uploaded files can easily be renamed or moved
    uploaded files wont go away if the web server
    moves

What is a Forum in Moodle?
  • Forum an open discussion, typically started
    with a topic starter, and
  • then students expand upon the original thought
    with clarification,
  • discussion, arguments and thoughts, both to the
    original statement and to
  • the other posters.
  • How to add a forum
  • Click on Add an Activity
  • Choose Forum
  • Name the Forum
  • Provide a clear introduction (For ex Please
    respond by clicking on the questions listed below
    or add your own question by clicking on Add a
    new discussion topic)
  • Add ratings if applicable (do not force everyone
    to be subscribed)
  • Go back to your course and click on the forum
    just created
  • Add a new discussion topic for each question

Adding an Activity - Audio Recorder
  • The Audio Recorder learning tool allows students
    to
  • record an MP3 audio file, saving to a local
    folder. The
  • student can then upload it as an assignment.
  • Click on Audio Recorder
  • Name your assignment
  • Give clear directions to your students.
  • Determine how many points the assignment is worth
  • Select a start and due date if you choose
  • Click Save

Embedding Videos
  • How to embed a Teacher Tube video
  • Find a video on Teacher Tube and locate the
    "embed code" on right (http//www.teachertube.com/
    videoList.php?pgvideomostviewed)
  • Choose "Add a Resource"
  • Choose "Compose a web page"
  • Name the webpage in the "General" area (ex name
    of video)
  • Scroll down to the second section in the Moodle,
    "Compose a web page" (You will see the words,
    "Full Text")
  • Click on the icon in the tool bar area that has
    the screen tip "Toggle HTML Source".  It looks
    like this ltgt.  You will be in "text mode" to
    insert the embed code
  • Paste the embed code in the text area while you
    are in Text Mode 
  • Click the icon ltgt again to go back
    to "WYSIWYG" Mode (What You See Is What You Get)
    once the code is embedded
  • Scroll down to save your work

How to Embed a VoiceThread
  • Find a Voicethread multi-media production that
    offers an embed
  • code by browsing www.VoiceThread.com
  • Click on the VoiceThread
  • Click on menu in the upper left-hand corner
  • Click on Embed
  • A dialog box named, Embed This VoiceThread will
    open
  • Click on copy on the right-hand side. Be
    careful not to copy the link at the bottom where
    it says, Copy This
  • Go to your Moodle, turn editing on, choose Add a
    Resource, choose Compose a web page
  • Name the web page and scroll to the second
    section
  • Click on the ltgt icon Toggle HTML Source
  • Right click and paste the embed code for the
    VoiceThread into Moodle.
