purchase of the SEM-EDS system upgrade of
the existing diffractometer

Purchase of the SEM-EDS system
Regarding the activities in the first year of the
project RESTCA-TERCE-NIPMSS we have started the
operation of collecting proposals for buying the
SEM-EDS system for the UB-FMG in the autumn 2008.
- direct contacts with all possible suppliers
- short presentations at the UB-FMG
- several personal contacts with sales managers
- direct visits with most SEM laboratories in
Serbia (Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš) - - Project coordinator, WP leader and some GUF and
GeoZS team members have made phone calls and
e-mail contacts with some laboratories in the
region (Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Hungary,
etc.)

- FEI Company
- Carl Zeiss GmbH
- SCAN
- The evaluation of all proposals revealed a
purchasing of a JEOL SEM/EDX system to be
supplied by JEOL regional representative SCAN
from Slovenia. The main reasons are - The SCAN offer included LaB6 filament and
turbomolecular vacuum pump - This proposal involved very significant
supplementary parts as cathodoluminiscence
detector and different sets of standards for
sulphides, heavy metals and minerals. - JSM 6610 has the possibility of further
integration of new instruments, especially with
new wavelength dispersive type detectors.

A SEM-EDS system JSM-6610LV - a low/high vacuum
analytical scanning electron microscope (LaB6
filament and ion pump - 10-5 Pa, and a
turbomolecular pump). MINI CL
cathodoluminiscence detector 185nm
850nm. Oxford INCA Energy 350 a system for
energy dispersive microanalysis. STANDARDS a
set of sulphide/heavy metals and minerals
standard blocks. BALTEC-SCD-005 a sputter Au
and C coating device.

- Selecting a laboratory room for adaptation
- A Laboratory room for the equipment installation
was selected on the basis of several criteria - required size of rooms to accommodate the
installation and accompanying facilities,
according the specifications given by the
supplier -
- b) the limit of the values for vibrations due to
traffic and possibly to the activities in the
adjacent laboratories - c) the level of electromagnetic radiation
The room No 242 in the basement and the room No
728 on the fourth floor in the building of the
Departments of Mineralogy and Crystallography and
Petrology and Geochemistry building were tested.

Renewal and upgrade of an X-ray
diffractometer The purchase of an X-ray
generator, a water cooling system and an X-ray
tube housing for an upgrade of the existing
diffractometer at the UB-FMG
The most suitable is the proposal given by Oxford
Diffraction Ltd
The equipment offered by Oxford Diffraction
Ltd. was possible to integrate in the existing
equipment delivery and installation high
quality services lowest price.
