Title: Minor Prophets, Major Message
1Minor Prophets,Major Message
Our Winter Series at Living Water
2- We are about to embark on a wonderful journey!
We will glimpse back in time and even flash
forward to future events. - The minor prophets have a message for us today,
relevant to the current state of the Church and
world events. - In fact, we are told that
3Why are they called Minor?
- Most commentaries say it is because they are
small books. - However, two of them are larger than Daniel, but
Daniel is a Major Prophet - Its not the size of the books, its the themes
of the books. - Daniel has multiple themes thus he is grouped
with the Major Prophets.
4- Eph 219 So then you are no longer strangers and
aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the
saints, and are of God's household,20 having
been built on the foundation of the apostles and
prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner
stone,
5- The Churchs foundation is built on the Apostles
and the Prophets. We all know what the Apostles
have given us in way of a foundation now lets
explore what the Prophets reveal to us in these
uncertain times. I think you will find this
series compelling, provocative, and absolutely
essential for the Church today Gods household
6- 1Ti 315 but in case I am delayed, I write so
that you will know how one ought to conduct
himself in the household of God, which is the
church of the living God, the pillar and support
of the truth.
7Some say the Twelve Prophets we are about to
study have nothing to say to the modern Christian
8God says they are our Foundation!
- In Romans 117 Paul quotes Habakkuk 24, when he
- says, It is written, The just shall live by
faith.
9- Perhaps most striking of all, we read in Matt. 2
that the wise men from the East had determined to
seek out the - Christ Child in Bethlehem because of the very
explicit directions which they found in Micah
52. But thou Bethlehem, though thou be little
among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee
shall He come forth unto me that is to be ruler
in Israel, whose goings forth have been from of
old, from everlasting. - The first sermon Peter quoted Joel.
10So why, 12 Angry Men?
- Eze 513 'Thus My anger will be spent and I will
satisfy My wrath on them, and I will be appeased
then they will know that I, the LORD, have spoken
in My zeal when I have spent My wrath upon them. - God Spoke His anger through the Prophets!
- It is a righteous anger!
- It is a message that so burns within them that
they must speak forth Gods Word.
11- The prophets of old were mens men. They were
zealous for the Word of God and declared His word
with passion. It was a righteous anger. - It is this zeal that we need today!
12Jesus was not a wimp!
- Joh 213 The Passover of the Jews was near, and
Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And He found in
the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep
and doves, and the money changers seated at their
tables. 15 And He made a scourge of cords, and
drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep
and the oxen and He poured out the coins of the
money changers and overturned their tables
13- Joh 216 and to those who were selling the doves
He said, "Take these things away stop making My
Father's house a place of business." - Joh 217 His disciples remembered that it was
written, "ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME."
14- When was the last time you were CONSUMED with
Zeal for Gods House? - Where have all the heroes gone?
- Where is the POWER in your life?
15- Act 18 but you will receive POWERwhen the Holy
Spirit has come upon you and YOU SHALL be My
witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the
earth."
16- Whens the last time you felt that zeal for the
things of God? - When is the last time you spoke out for Truth and
Righteousness? - Are you driven by the Power of God or the fear of
men?
17- Php 113 so that my imprisonment in the cause of
Christ has become well known throughout the whole
praetorian guard and to everyone else, - Php 114 and that most of the brethren, trusting
in the Lord because of my imprisonment, have far
more COURAGE to speak the word of God WITHOUT
FEAR.
18We will find that God judges nations
- In our great country, democracy is king and we
the people rule. We do not have to submit to a
dictator nor do we have to idly stand by allow
our politicians to continue to degrade the moral
integrity of this nation. It is the duty and
obligation of each Christian to stand up for
TRUTH and oppose those who oppose the ethical and
moral compass of God's Word.
19- Tit 211 For the grace of God has appeared,
bringing salvation to all men, - Tit 212 instructing us to deny ungodliness and
worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously
and godly in the present age, - Tit 213 looking for the blessed hope and the
appearing of the glory of our great God and
Savior, Christ Jesus,
20- Tit 214 who gave Himself for us to redeem us
from every lawless deed, and to purify for
Himself a people for His own possession, ZEALOUS
for good deeds. - Tit 215 These things speak and exhort and
reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard
you.

zealous for what is good? - 1Pe 314 But even if you should suffer for the
sake of righteousness, you are blessed. AND DO
NOT FEAR THEIR INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE
TROUBLED,
24- Rev 315 'I know your deeds, that you are
neither cold nor hot I wish that you were cold
or hot. - Rev 316 'So because you are lukewarm, and
neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My

miserable and poor and blind and naked,

faith, act like men, be strong. - Act 1716 Now while Paul was waiting for them at

will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant,
you shall be my treasured possession among all
peoples, for all the earth is mine 6and you
shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy

dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.
2Pe 120 But know this first of all, that no
prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own
interpretation, 2Pe 121 for no prophecy was
ever made by an act of human will, but men moved
by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
