  • A 26 year old Shell Employee was killed when the
    car he was driving hit a camel
  • Facts
  • The road was dry, the weather sunny and
    visibility was good
  • The driver was speeding 150/160kph in 120kph
    limited area
  • The driver was not wearing a seat belt
  • The driver was using his mobile phone (while
    overtaking)
  • The car did not have ABS or an airbag
  • The deceased was a HSSE Focal Point
  • How can this happen when we are all committed to
    safety?

Are you still using your mobile phone whilst you
are driving?
When using a hand held mobile phone you travel an
additional 14 metres before stopping. Worse than
being drunk

What action are you going to take?
  • Reinforce the message about defensive driving
  • Ensure drivers who break company rules are
    subject to disciplinary action
  • Drivers/passengers must wear seatbelts
  • Drivers must not use their mobile phone whilst
    driving
  • Drivers must obey local legislation
  • What can you do?
  • Drive safely and encourage our colleagues to do
    the same
  • Never hold a phone conversation with someone who
    is driving always check

Road traffic fatalities (including pedestrians,
cyclists and motorists) are projected to double
over the next two decades to over 1.5 million
people annually, moving from ninth to third in
terms of the leading causes of injury and disease
globally. Make sure you and your colleagues are
not one of those statistics
