Task list from CM17 and before
Since CM17
Run plan -- understand timescales for changes of
absorber etc. -- Time of flight -- RF phase how
to time muons wrt RF ?? -- Algorithm for RF
voltage calibration -- Effects of collimation,
scraping in beamline -- Downstream geometry --
sizes of Shields, TOF2, EMCal -- Done
!!! RF-induced background in TOF (and with
different optics) -- Global PID performance
(up/downstream) different optics/momentum --
Done (Downstream) Beam envelope interference with
cryostat -- Done (RS) Effect of variations in
window shape, absorber density,
etc. -- Scraping/beam envelope/acceptance through
channel and dets -- Done Weighting/virtual

----------------------------------------------- Ta
ke ownership of dE/dX and scattering models
(physics) -- No takers Understand longitudinal
phase space better emittance growth -- Ongoing
(CR) Understand how to use field maps --- ???
(why?) -- ??? Procedure for RF phasing in
G4MICE -- Done (?) Prioritize simulations for
data challenge -- Done (for the
moment) ------------------------------------------

------------------------ Diffuser radius
optimisation -- In prog. (M.A.) Matching
ISIS beam into MICE -- do we understand
requirements? -- Database requirements (raised by
P. Kyberd) -- All Effect on optics of lumps of
iron (e.g. cryocooler shields) -- (J.C.) ISIS
(K.T. G4BL) beams through MICE -- (M.A.

PRIORITIES CM18 19, 20.
  • For Steps V and VI
  • Understand how to select correct subset
(x,y,t,px,py,pz) of muons from ISIS beam, i.e.
  • Transverse emittance
  • Momentum bite
  • Timing wrt RF to O(50 100) ps (sine qua non)
  • Amplitude momentum correlation
  • Know roughly what we want ( FS2 entrance to
    cooling section)
  • Not yet clear at least to me what comes down
    beamline
  • This will be very difficult
  • ? Understand,model use ISIS beam for
    simulations, i.e.
  • Start using G4BL / Turtle output ? G4MICE / ICOOL
  • ? Steps I and II should have equal / higher
    priority

4
PRIORITIES CM18 19, 20.
  • Steps I and II
  • rather new territory (Step VI much much sexier)
  • How to measure phase space of beam(s)
    d5N/(dx,dy, dpx,dpy,dpz)
  • using tracker TOF0 1 ?
  • Tracker pz resolution for individual muons in
    small emittance beam?
  • spz gt 6 MeV/c for pt lt 10 MeV/c
  • Use TOFs also?
  • How well do we need to measure pz to understand
    beam?
  • 5 MeV/c ? 10 MeV/c ?
  • What should the currents in the matching coils be
    for Step I ?
  • Never considered hitherto
  • And so on. suggestions welcome
  • Understanding required
  • Continue / increase working with beamline group
