Title: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

1
  • 1 Thessalonians 51-11
  • 1 But concerning the times and the seasons,
brethren, you have no need that I should write to
    you.
  • 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day
of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
  • 3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then
sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor
pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not
    escape.

2
  • 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that
this Day should overtake you as a thief.
  • 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day.
We are not of the night nor of darkness.
  • 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but
let us watch and be sober.
  • 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those
who get drunk are drunk at night.

3
  • 8 But let us who are of the day be sober,
putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and
as a helmet the hope of salvation.
  • 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to
obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
  • 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or
sleep, we should live together with Him.
  • 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one
another, just as you also are doing.
  • NKJV

  • THE
  • DAY
  • OF
  • THE LORD

5
WHEN THE DAY OF THE LORD COMES
  • ALL
  • WILL BE RAISED
  • FROM
  • THE DEAD !

6
  • John 638-40
  • 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My
own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
  • 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me,
that of all He has given Me I should lose
nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
  • 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that
everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may
have everlasting life and I will raise him up at
    the last day."

7
  • 1 Corinthians 1512-20
  • 12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been
raised from the dead, how do some among you say
that there is no resurrection of the dead?
  • 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead,
    then Christ is not risen.
  • 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching
is empty and your faith is also empty.

8
  • 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is
    not risen.
  • 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is
futile you are still in your sins!
  • 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in
    Christ have perished.
  • 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ,
we are of all men the most pitiable.
  • 20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has
become the firstfruits of those who have fallen
    asleep.
  • NKJV

9
  • 1 Corinthians 1521-26
  • 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came
    the resurrection of the dead.
  • 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all
    shall be made alive.
  • 23 But each one in his own order Christ the
first fruits, afterward those who are Christ's at
    His coming.

10
  • 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the
kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to
all rule and all authority and power.
  • 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies
    under His feet.
  • 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is
    death.
  • NKJV

11
WHEN THE DAY OF THE LORD COMES
  • THERE
  • WILL BE
  • A
  • UNIVERSAL JUDGMENT.

12
  • Hebrews 927
  • 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once,
    but after this the judgment,
  • NKJV

13
  • 2 Corinthians 510
  • 10 For we must all appear before the judgment
seat of Christ, that each one may receive the
things done in the body, according to what he has
    done, whether good or bad.
  • NKJV

14
  • Revelation 2011-15
  • 11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who
sat on it, from whose face the earth and the
heaven fled away. And there was found no place
    for them.
  • 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing
before God, and books were opened. And another
book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And
the dead were judged according to their works, by
the things which were written in the books.

15
  • 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and
Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in
them. And they were judged, each one according to
    his works.
  • 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake
of fire. This is the second death.
  • 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of
Life was cast into the lake of fire.
  • NKJV

16
WHEN THE DAY OF THE LORD COMES
  • THERE WILL BE
  • A REWARD
  • FOR THE RIGHTEOUS
  • AND
  • PUNISHMENT FOR
  • THE UNRIGHTEOUS.

17
  • John 528-29
  • 28 Do not marvel at this for the hour is coming
in which all who are in the graves will hear His
    voice
  • 29 and come forth -- those who have done good, to
the resurrection of life, and those who have done
evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
  • NKJV

18
  • Romans 623
  • 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • NKJV

19
  • 2 Thessalonians 16-10
  • 6 since it is a righteous thing with God to repay
with tribulation those who trouble you,
  • 7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us
when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with
    His mighty angels,
  • 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who
do not know God, and on those who do not obey the
gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

20
  • 9 These shall be punished with everlasting
destruction from the presence of the Lord and
from the glory of His power,
  • 10 when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in
His saints and to be admired among all those who
believe, because our testimony among you was
    believed.
  • NKJV

21
  • Mark 943-48
  • 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It
is better for you to enter into life maimed,
rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into
the fire that shall never be quenched
  • 44 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire
    is not quenched.'
  • 45 "And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it
off. It is better for you to enter life lame,
rather than having two feet, to be cast into
hell, into the fire that shall never be
    quenched--

22
  • 46 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire
    is not quenched.'
  • 47 "And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it
out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of
God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to
    be cast into hell fire
  • 48 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire
    is not quenched.'
  • NKJV

23
WHEN THE DAY OF THE LORD COMES
  • THE
  • MATERIAL UNIVERSE WILL
  • BE DESTROYED
  • AND
  • TIME WILL END.

24
  • 2 Peter 31-7
  • 1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle
(in both of which I stir up your pure minds by
    way of reminder),
  • 2 that you may be mindful of the words which were
spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the
commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and
    Savior,
  • 3 knowing this first that scoffers will come in
the last days, walking according to their own
    lusts,

25
  • 4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His
coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all
things continue as they were from the beginning
    of creation."
  • 5 For this they willfully forget that by the
word of God the heavens were of old, and the
earth standing out of water and in the water,
  • 6 by which the world that then existed perished,
    being flooded with water.
  • 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now
preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire
until the day of judgment and perdition of
    ungodly men.

26
  • 2 Peter 38-13
  • 8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing,
that with the Lord one day is as a thousand
years, and a thousand years as one day.
  • 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise,
as some count slackness, but is longsuffering
toward us, not willing that any should perish but
that all should come to repentance.

27
  • 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief
in the night, in which the heavens will pass away
with a great noise, and the elements will melt
with fervent heat both the earth and the works
that are in it will be burned up.
  • 11 Therefore, since all these things will be
dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be
    in holy conduct and godliness,
  • 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the
day of God, because of which the heavens will be
dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will
    melt with fervent heat?

28
  • 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise,
look for new heavens and a new earth in which
    righteousness dwells.
  • NKJV

29
WHEN THE DAY OF THE LORD COMES
  • THE HOPE
  • FOR
  • ALL FAITHFUL CHRISTIANS
  • WILL
  • COME TRUE !

30
  • Mark 1028-30
  • 28 Then Peter began to say to Him, "See, we have
    left all and followed You."
  • 29 So Jesus answered and said, "Assuredly, I say
to you, there is no one who has left house or
brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife
or children or lands, for My sake and the
    gospel's,

31
  • 30 who shall not receive a hundredfold now in
this time -- houses and brothers and sisters and
mothers and children and lands, with persecutions
-- and in the age to come, eternal life.
  • NKJV

32
  • 1 Thessalonians 413-18
  • 13 But I do not want you to be ignorant,
brethren, concerning those who have fallen
asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no
    hope.
  • 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose
again, even so God will bring with Him those who
    sleep in Jesus.

33
  • 15 For this we say to you by the word of the
Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the
coming of the Lord will by no means precede those
    who are asleep.
  • 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven
with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and
with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ
    will rise first.
  • 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be
caught up together with them in the clouds to
meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall
    always be with the Lord.
  • 18 Therefore comfort one another with these
    words.
  • NKJV

34
  • Revelation 211-4
  • 1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the
first heaven and the first earth had passed away.
Also there was no more sea.
  • 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a
    bride adorned for her husband.

35
  • 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying,
"Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and
He will dwell with them, and they shall be His
people. God Himself will be with them and be
    their God.
  • 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their
eyes there shall be no more death, nor sorrow,
nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the
    former things have passed away."
  • NKJV

36
  • IF
  • THE LORD
  • SHOULD COME TONIGHT
  • WOULD YOU BE HAPPY
  • AND GLAD ?
  • OR
  • WOULD YOU BE SAD ?
