- Are required for any student under age 18 before
he/she begins working - May be obtained from the nurses office
3Student Non-factory Employment Certificate
- 14-15 years old
- For work in any trade, business, or service
- NOT for work in a factory workroom or for work
involving use of dangerous materials or chemical
processes.
4Student General Employment Certificate
- 16-17 years old - attending school
- For work in a factory or any other trade,
business, or service. - NOT for hazardous employment like operating
certain power-driven machines, construction work,
or for work as a helper on a motor vehicle
5Full-Time Employment Certificate
- 16-17 NOT attending school or is leaving school
for full-time employment - For work in a factory or any other trade,
business, or service - NOT for hazardous employment like operating
certain power-driven machines, construction work,
or for work as a helper on a motor vehicle.
6Farm Work Permits
- 14-15 years old
- For farm work during vacation, before/after
school, on days when attendance at school is not
required. - Permit must be signed by each employer
- NOT for work in or in connection with a factory
or cannery.
7Hand Harvest (berries, fruits, vegetables)
- 12-13 years old
- Must be accompanied by a parent OR
- Must provide employer with parents written
consent to work
8Newspaper Carrier Permits
- 11-18 years old
- For work in deliver, or sale and delivery of
newspapers, shopping papers, or periodicals to
homes/businesses. - Must carry permit while working.
9Street Trade Permits
- 14-18 years old
- For self-employed boys and girls who sell
newspapers or periodicals on streets or in public
places or who work as shoe shiners.
10Child Model Permit
- For the employment of child models under 18 years
of age.
11Performer Permits
- Issued by the chief executive of the municipality
in which the performance takes place
12Certificates of Age
- An employer may request a minor who is over 18 to
provide a certificate of age - These may be obtained from school authorities
- Employer may keep these on file as conclusive
proof of the workers age
13EXCEPTIONS to Employment Certificates/Permits
- Caddy on a golf course
- Must be at least14 years old
- Babysitter
- Must be at least 14 years old
- Farm work permit
- Not required if 16-17 years old

farm stand or farmers market owned/leased by a
parent, guardian, grandparent, aunt, or uncle. - Working for parents

Federal law 16 year age minimum for the
operation of power-driven machinery including
power-driven lawn mowers.
