Title: Evaluating Source Material

1
Evaluating Source Material
  • Humanities GCSE 2008

2
Analyse
  • Examine the source by asking yourself
  • Who wrote it?
  • When was it written or produced?
  • Why was it written? (were there any special
    circumstances surrounding it?)
  • Who was it written for?
  • What does it say?
  • What doesn't it say?
  • What other sources do we have to compare it with?
  • Is it reliable?
  • How can you use the source to support your points
    and ideas?

3
Source Booklets
  • It may not be possible to analyse the sources in
a historical way but they still need to be
    examined.
  • Ask yourself what you have read what have you
    seen?
  • What does the source suggest or infer (think
    outside the box)

4
Statistical Examples
  • 1 of abortions in 2007 were carried out due to
    foetal abnormality
  • 4 of abortions were carried out on girls under
    16
  • What do these statistics tell us about abortion
trends? Why? What else can we assume from this
    information?

5
Pictorial Examples
  • Somalian Child

Suggestions What is suggested?

Suggestion of overcrowding of tourism in the
LakeDistrict National Park. May support Source G.
