What do consumer documents do?
They provide information
from the fairly simple
to the very complicated.

Consumer documents cannot do their jobs if we do
not do our job, which is reading them carefully.
As consumers, we must
  • Know what kind of document were reading.
  • Understand the purpose of the document.
  • Evaluate any claims made in the document.

Consumer Documents
When you buy something, you become a consumer of
that product.
Before and after your purchase, you should rely
on various consumer documents for information.

An ADVERTISEMENT shows a consumer what is
available, how much that product costs, and when
and where that product is available.

A SCHEDULE indicates what time events will occur,
what times services are available.

What information can you expect to find in each

A LABEL is a list of contents or ingredients,
care instructions, safety warnings.

A WARRANTY includes information about what the
manufacturer agrees to repair (or not repair)
after a purchase has been made.

service. It is a document that explains what is
expected of you as a consumer and what is
expected of whomever is selling you a product or
a service.

that provides directions for assembling and using
