• Paul wanted to Corinthians to examine themselves
  in light of truth (2 Cor. 135)
• False teachers from without were influencing the
  Corinthian brethren (2 Cor. 1113-15)
• Division from within was influencing the
  Corinthian brethren (1 Cor. 1119,28)

What will I be doing?

• Try (Gr. peirazete) a trial, a test, in a
  good sense for the purpose of ascertaining
  quality
• Prove (Gr. dokimazete) test, examine, prove,
  scrutinize to see whether a thing is genuine or
  not
• Your own selves, (Gal. 64) not someone else at
  this time (1 Jn. 41 Rev. 22)
• Self-examination is a present tense, continuous
  activity

• Not the subjective standard of self (Gal. 63
  Rom. 122 1 Cor. 82 Rom. 123 2 Cor.
  1012,18)
• Not the relative standard of others (1 Cor. 46)
• But, the objective standard of God and His Word
  the faith (Prov. 173 Zech. 139 1 Thess.
  24 2 Tim. 215)

• Am I faithfully living within the boundaries of
  Gods word (1 Tim. 416)
• There is an ever-present danger of drifting (Heb.

• We can know our standing before God (1 Jn. 314

• Jesus Christ dwells in every faithful child of

• Will I act as Jesus acted?
• Will I teach what Jesus taught?

• Third, Am I a reprobate?
• Reprobate (Gr. ) not standing the test, not

• I can be reprobate (rejected) when I refuse Gods
  knowledge (Rom. 128), lack self-control
  (1 Cor. 927), refuse to grow (Heb.
  68), withstand truth (2 Tim. 38) and act
  hypocritically (Tit. 116)
