Interpersonal communication
  • Interpersonal communication takes place when
    people interact. They talk, listen, observe and
    react with each other, exchanging many sorts of
    information in many different ways
  • There are three main ways on communicating
  • The voice
  • The face
  • The body

Careful listening
  • If you listen attentively to what is being said
    you will come to know people better and begin to
    see things from their point of view. This is
    especially important in your work as people needs
    others who are responsive and sensitive to them
  • Listening to people is an excellent way of coming
    to understand them, of developing relationships
    with them and encouraging them to communicate
    with you
  • When you listen carefully to someone they realise
    that you are talking them seriously and that you
    treat what they have to say with respect

Careful listening
  • Interpersonal communication is a two way process,
    there is someone who sends a message and someone
    who receives it. Listening is an essential part
    of communication and it is vital fro you to be
    able to listen carefully
  • Careful listening means that you can cooperate
    better with colleagues because you understand the
    message that are important for your work

What is a team?
  • A team is a group of people with shared values
    and beliefs working towards the same goal

Characteristics that are helpful in identifying
a good team
  • A team has a high success rate e.g. more often
    than not it achieves what it sets out to do
  • A team agrees clear, challenging objectives e.g.
    everyone in team contributes to, shares
    understanding of ands is committed to the
    objectives
  • A team has a mix of people who contribute in
    different but complimentary ways

Characteristics that are helpful in identifying
a good team
  • A team operates in such a way that a balance is
    struck between concerns fro the task the what and
    concern for the process the how
  • A team creates a supportive atmosphere where
    people are happy to go. Say what they think,
    develop on others ideas and commit to an agreed
    course of action even though there may be
    differences of opinions
  • A team learning from experience, both from
    success and failures, by reviewing its process
    and constantly improving its own performance
  • A team works hard and plays hard its members not
    only achieve challenging objectives but also
    enjoy themselves as they do so
