Attendance
  • Students must be inside the classroom by 755 not
    to be counted tardy.
  • Perfect attendance includes no tardies or early
    dismissals
  • Awards will be given each quarter for perfect
    attendance.

Featured Student
  • When your student is the featured student he or
    she will
  • Bring snack for 21 students
  • Be assigned as the daily class helper, line
    leader, etc.
  • Thank you for checking the snack schedule!!!

Reading
  • Students will have a reading log in their
    homework folder.
  • Students will list each book thats read at
    school or home and include the authors name and
    genre of the selection.
  • Please try to read for 15-20 minutes every
    evening.
  • Book Talks will be the last week of each month

  • Our reading program is a combination of whole
    class and small group reading of
  • Basal Reader
  • Novel studies
  • Guided Reading/small group/partner Reading
  • Book Talks and projects

Math
  • Our Everyday Math curriculum has two journals and
    a Student Reference Book.
  • Students will complete a Home Link almost every
    day.
  • Helpful tips and answers are in the Family Letter
    that is sent home at the beginning of each unit.

  • Parents should reinforce the following components
    at home
  • Algorithms
  • Games
  • Basic Facts
  • Home-links

Social Studies
  • Social studies grades will be a combination of
    daily geography, workbook pages, and test scores.

Science
  • Third graders complete five science units.
  • They are Sound, Chemical Tests, Rocks and
    Minerals, Plant Growth and Development, Food
    Chains and Webs.

Cursive
  • Students will learn one letter each day.
  • We will begin with lowercase letters and then
    uppercase.
  • As students learn letters, they will write words,
    sentences, and poems.
  • By the third quarter students should be writing
    almost everything in cursive.

Spelling
  • Students will take home a spelling list each
    Monday after a pretest.
  • Although all students will be expected to take
    the dictation test on Thursday, students who get
    a perfect score on the pretest will not be
    expected to take the spelling word test.
  • Bonus words are added to the spelling list.
    These words are for extra points and are
    for extra credit (optional).

Language
  • Language lessons are taught through our language
    textbook, daily oral language exercises and
    mini-lessons.
  • Students will use the writing process to complete
    writing activities throughout the year.

P.E./Music
  • Day 1 will be Music with Ms. Rose
  • Day 2 will be Music with Mr. Feexico
  • Wear tennis shoes on P.E. days. You might have
    your child wear them each Monday if youre not
    sure whether its a Day 1 or 2.

Technology
  • Students will develop technology skills utilizing
    the following components
  • Computer Lab/Laptops
  • E-instruction
  • Projects

Art
  • Students will have art instruction each week
  • There will be an art assessment in the spring

Behavior Management
  • Agendas
  • Puls Dollars
  • Class Meetings

Star Student
  • The Star student will be announced a week in
    advance
  • Students with good behavior and updated agendas
    will have their names submitted for a drawing
  • Parents will write a letter, send 12 photos and
    join their child for lunch if possible

Mystery Readers
  • Interested parents will sign up to be a Mystery
    Reader
  • Readers may select a book or opt to have a book
    selected for them
  • Mystery Readers are to be a surprise-do not share
    your date with your child

Grading
  • Students in third grade receive letter grades
    decided by percentage scores.
  • Students are expected to complete all assignments
  • All assignments (except tests) with a score below
    70 may be corrected to a passing grade of 70.
  • Students will receive a maximum of 70 on
    late work.

Agendas
  • Third graders use an agenda to record their daily
    assignments.
  • Please look over this each evening and initial in
    the box on the right.
  • Completed work should be crossed out.
  • Homework assignments should be circled
  • This is also a place where you can send me
    messages, and I can send messages to you.

Moodle Page
  • I have constructed a Moodle page for student and
    parent use
  • Use guest access with key pulsrocks
  • This page will be updated daily and can be
    accessed to obtain the daily agenda and homework
    when students are absent
